‘Ethical Car Hacking to understand and appreciate the need for Automotive Cybersecurity’

Description

The Vehicle Systems Forensics investigator needs an awareness around Automotive Cybersecurity and the implications of reverse engineering vehicle systems. The automotive industry is going through a huge transition now. The technologies that are being developed on the modern vehicle are at risk of a cyber-attack. Whilst the automotive cyber security scene and motor industry is working hard to minimise these attacks, they are still prevalent, and we see them regular in the ways modern vehicles are sometimes stolen and in responsible disclosures to the manufacture by ethical hackers.

The implications of these systems being compromised could result in death or serious injury in investigations that are to follow in the future, so it is important we have an awareness as the scene develops and unfolds.

This module is very much a hands on session and is intended to give those people an introduction to Automotive Cybersecurity or for those who are already practicing Automotive Cyber Security to gain further experience.

·  What is CAN - CAN Bus Network Communication Protocols

·  Hardware & Software required for Ethical Hacking

·  Attack methods – Physical / Back End / Apps

·  Known exploits of the CAN bus including real world examples

·  Reverse Engineering 

·  In Vehicle Infotainment Hack over WiFi or Bluetooth

·  Practical demonstrations of CAN Bus Hack 

Who Should Attend

This module is for those people who are experienced Vehicle Systems Forensics Investigators or who have an interest in Automotive Cyber Security.

Roles and Occupations include: Staff in Cyber Security Roles with an interest or responsibility for Automotive's. 

Police Officers / Staff responsible for Vehicle Systems Forensics Examinations. 

Digital Media Investigators, Digital Forensics Practitioners, 

Forensic & Serious Collision Investigators, Insurance Investigators involving motor vehicles.

Equipment Requirements

Simple CAN hardware will be provided.

Linux / Windows Device/VM with python can be used to interact with the CAN hardware, may require installation of software drivers for the CAN hardware.

An interest in Automotive Cybersecurity and Ethical Hacking
